Polish referees arrested for stealing road sign before Dynamo-Rangers match in Lublin

The referees were supposed to work in the VAR team, they were replaced by another duo

Polish referees were arrested in Lublin before the match Dynamo with Rangers in the third qualifying round Champions League 2024/25.

Three men reportedly stole a road sign from a square in Lublin on the night of August 6 and then headed towards a shopping mall with it. Police arrested all three at 1:43 a.m.

“At around 1:40 a.m. we received a report that three men were carrying a road sign down the street. Police officers were sent to the scene. All the men were drunk and had more than 1.5 ppm of alcohol in their blood. They were taken to a sobering-up station,” said a spokesman for the Lublin police.

Among those detained were two referees of the Polish Ekstraklasa, Bartosz F. and Tomasz M. It was reported that 1.7 ppm of alcohol was found in Bartosz’s blood, and 1.8 ppm in Tomasz’s.

Both referees were supposed to work the match between Dynamo and Rangers in the Champions League qualifiers. Bartosz F. was reportedly supposed to head the VAR team, and Tomasz was appointed his assistant. Both referees have been suspended from the match, and now another Polish duo has been appointed to the match – Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Paweł Malec.

Let us remind you that the match between Dynamo and Rangers will be refereed by Donatas Rumšas from Lithuania. His compatriots Aleksandrs Radiush and Dovydas Sužedelis will be assistants of the game. Lithuanian Robertas Šmitas has been appointed as the reserve referee.

Let us recall that the “home” match for the Kiev team against Rangers will take place in Lublin, Poland, at the Lublin Arena on Tuesday, August 6. The match will kick off at 20:00 local time (21:00 Kyiv time). The return match will take place in Glasgow a week later, on August 13.
