Ukrainian defender Arsenal Alexander Zinchenko will perform under the new season number 17The Ukrainian played for the Gunners for the previous two years under number 35.
“The number 17 is a very special number for me. It was the number I wore as a young player and I always asked to wear 17 when I played for my country.”
“As the number 17 was vacant after Cedric left, I asked if I could take it over. I am grateful to everyone at the club for their support.”
Cedric Soares previously wore the number 17 shirt at Arsenal. The Portuguese defender left the Gunners in July.
The 27-year-old Ukrainian made 35 appearances for Arsenal last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Zinchenko missed a number of games due to injuries, after which he lost his place in the Gunners’ starting lineup.
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season. In the first round of the new English championship, Zinchenko’s team will host Wolverhampton on August 17.
