Beleniuk: What can I say? I can’t say anything.

Jean is unhappy with his performance in the semi-finals of the Paris Games

Ukrainian wrestler Jean Beleniuk commented on the fight with Iranian Alireza Mohammadi Pian in the semi-finals Olympics 2024 in Paris.

“What went wrong? I missed an action, and lost on the last action. What can I say? I can’t say anything. Perhaps I didn’t study my opponent enough, although he can “roll”. I didn’t do my job well enough somewhere.”

Alireza Mohammadi Piani was losing to the Ukrainian 0:3 after the first period, but managed to respond in kind in the second period. Thus, Beleniuk’s opponent gained an advantage as the wrestler who performed the active action last.

For the rest of the time, Jean was active, trying to attack, but Alireza masterfully eluded his grips and was still able to snatch victory.

Let us recall that earlier in the tournament the Ukrainian athlete was stronger than the Chinese Qian Haitao (7:1) and the Kazakh Nursultan Tursinov (7:3).

Today, August 8, Beleniuk will fight for bronze. Zhan has already won two Olympic medals in his career: silver at Rio 2016 (up to 85 kg) and gold at Tokyo 2020 (up to 87). Now he can collect the full set if he wins bronze in Paris.

Another Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler, Parviz Nasibov, managed to reach the final in the 67 kg category yesterday – he defeated Azerbaijani Hasrat Dzhafarov also due to his last active move.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
