Fluminense seeks a draw at the end, but cannot avoid elimination in the Copa do Brasil

This Wednesday (7), the Fluminense received, in the MaracanãO Youth for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Brazil Cup 2024. The emotions of the match were all saved for the end, when Flu, losing 2-0, managed to equalize, but, on aggregate, was eliminated 5-4.

Juventude was efficient from the start and opened the scoring after just 5 minutes of play with a goal from Lucas Barbosawho deflected a corner kick from Alan Ruschel. The Gaucho team then closed up in defense and bet on counterattacks, leaving Fluminense with possession of the ball, but without much effectiveness.

Despite dominating possession and exchanging many passes, the Rio team barely threatened the goalkeeper Gabrielwho made only one save from a shot on goal Kauã Elias. Meanwhile, Alan Ruschel and Erick Farias forced Fabio working harder, and Juventude ended the first half with the advantage, extended by the 3-2 victory in the first leg.

In the second half, Fluminense almost equalized in the first minute, when Kauã Elias was stopped by Gabriel. Arias also required a good save from the goalkeeper from Rio Grande do Sul right after. The pressure for the tricolor increased, with attempts from all sides, but the team came up against Juventude’s solid defense. In a moment of bad luck for Flu, Marcelowho had just entered, felt a muscle problem and had to leave the field, slowing down the team’s pace.

Despite dominating the game, Fluminense had difficulty overcoming Juventude’s defense. When the team from Rio Grande do Sul seemed more comfortable, they managed to mount a decisive counterattack. Marcelinho received the ball inside the area after a quick exit and finished to make it 2-0.

In the final minutes, Fluminense reacted with Kauã Elias scoring with a backheel after a cross from Keno at 45 minutes, and two minutes later, Keno scored a great goal, setting Maracanã on fire. Despite the final pressure, the Rio de Janeiro team was unable to avoid defeat and elimination. Check out some facts about the match:
