Ukrainian refugee player Andriy Kravchuk will play in the youth team of “citizens” until the end of the season.

Alexander Zinchenko helped Andrey Kravchuk, a former Moscow Torpedo football player, find work. The Manchester City defender had previously played with Kravchuk on Shakhtar’s youth team, and advised City management to bring the player to trial.

Now 23, he will spend the rest of the season with the Manchester City Under-23s. Recall that Kravchuk previously played as part of the Moscow Torpedo, but at the outbreak of war he broke the contract with the club.

In an interview with BBC Sport, the footballer said he had no doubts about his decision to leave the club from the aggressor country.

“I was very uncomfortable … I played in a country that attacked my homeland. The only solution was to leave the club. People in Ukraine would not understand me if I continued to play there.

My brother Alex is fighting in the Armed Forces. Every day I tell him how proud I am of him for defending not only our Motherland, but the whole country, the Ukrainian citizens. He stays and resists. I was very worried.

I was in groups and chatting on messenger and always receiving messages with bombing warnings. Whenever these notifications come, I get excited. At such times, you think that only your family can die.

The past weeks and months have been very difficult, but getting back on the pitch has been very important to me, ”Kravchuk said.
