The Krivbass coach named the lack of freshness due to constant relocations as one of the most important reasons for the failure
Head coach Krivbassa Yuri Vernidub commented on the defeat from Victoria Plzen (0:1) in the third qualifying round Europa Leagues.
“I want to congratulate the Viktoria team on reaching the Europa League playoffs. I wish them to beat Hearts and a long tournament path in this tournament. Kryvbas will play in the Conference League playoffs. We are expecting another strong opponent – Spanish Betis. For us, this is a school. Viktoria won both matches thanks to its experience in European tournaments. The opponent was also stronger than us in anthropometry. Although in terms of the game itself, we also had some good moments, but we did not use them.”
“What was missing for success? Many factors. This includes lack of experience, because we are only taking our first steps in European tournaments. Viktoria has much more experience. Secondly, logistics. It is much easier for the opponent to travel. Kryvbas cannot play at home, but abroad. Our home stadium is in Kosice. You understand, we play in Slovakia, then return to Ukraine by bus. We spend a lot of time at the border. We play in Ukraine, and then again abroad. In some ways, our players are lacking in this regard. They do not have the freshness that our opponents have. In some ways, we do not have time to physically recover. I think this is the most important thing.”
“Overall, Viktoria is a good opponent, but Kryvbas also looked decent. The only thing is that they won twice, and we lost twice. About the first meeting: we should not have lost in Kosice, but it happened. Once again, I congratulate the opponent on the victory.”
Let us recall that Kryvbas suffered a second defeat from their Czech opponent in Plzen with a minimal score, having missed the only goal at the start of the second half. A week ago, playing a nominally home match in Kosice, Slovakia, Vernydub’s team scored first, but ultimately lost with a score of 1:2.
The Kryvyi Rih team, like Poliesie earlier (in the Conference League qualification), lost both matches in the current European season. But Kryvbas still has a chance to get into the European autumn. To do this, in the Conference League playoff round, the bronze medalist of the UPL will need to get past the Spanish Betis.
