Elina Svitolina’s Husband Scores Strong-Willed Victory Over World No.3
Famous French tennis player Gael Monfils defeated the world’s third-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz from Spain in the second round of the tournament ATP Masters Tour 1000 in American Cincinnati.
The match between Monfils and Alcaraz began yesterday, but was interrupted due to rain with the score 6:4, 6:6 (1:3) in favor of Carlos.
Today, Gael brought the matter to victory in the tie-break of the second set (7:5), and then proved stronger than the Spaniard in the third set – 6:4. Note that Monfils beat Alcaraz for the first time in three meetings.
In the third round of the tournament in Cincinnati, 37-year-old Monfils will play against Holger Rune from Denmark. The fight will take place on the night of August 16-17.
Monfils’ wife, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, will play Aryna Sabalenka in the 1/8 finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati today. The start is no earlier than 22:25 Kyiv time.
