Obolon lost away to Vorskla
Head coach Obolon Valery Ivashchenko criticized the refereeing in the match with Vorskla (0:2) in the third round Ukrainian Premier League 2024/25.
“What do I think? Of course, there was no handball. All of Ukraine is calling now and writing: “A clean goal was disallowed.” I just want to ask: “How is it interpreted?” and all that. We’ve had so many matches like that.”
“We played with Kovalivka in the first round – he also throws his hand, they look – there is nothing. We played with Alexandria – he also had a clean hand at the end of the championship. Many such moments are interpreted, I don’t know how. And all are not in our favor.”
“Of course, they scored a goal, the tension of football, they could have turned it around somewhere. What questions do you have for the guys? They did well, they played, and according to the analysis – what I just watched – they made enough shots, but their accuracy suffers. The opposing team, in essence, had one moment in the first half, they didn’t finish off the rebound, and that’s it. We tried, we made enough shots, but the ball doesn’t want to get into the goal.”
“Of course, such situations are frustrating when people decide the outcome of a match – I mean the referees. They decide for themselves, they create such moments themselves, and somewhere, of course, it is frustrating. So it is difficult to say anything here.”
“It would be good if there was some consistency. I’m telling you, there are many such moments – here they interpret it yes, there they interpret it differently. It seems that it is advantageous. Is that all that can be commented on? All of Ukraine laughs: “Why is that so?” Well, that’s how it is.”
Vorskla opened the scoring in the first half, with Ivan Nesterenko scoring the rebound. In the second half, the visitors scored a goal, which the referee did not count, recording a handball. Then Poltava scored the second goal, setting the final score.
Ivaschenko’s team has one point after three rounds. Next, Obolon will play in the Ukrainian Cup against Kolos on August 21, and then on August 25 in the UPL, they will play an away match against Poliesia.
