Karpaty were leading but conceded twice in the second half
Head coach Carpathians Vladislav Lupashko commented on the defeat from LNZ (1:2) in the fourth round Ukrainian Premier League 2024/25.
“It was a really tough day. First of all, I would like to thank our management. There were a lot of difficulties today that we tried to solve. When we got to the hotel 45 minutes before leaving for the match, it was understandable that it was physically difficult for us.”
“I think the main reason for today’s defeat was that we didn’t have enough strength. There was a trip, and there was also a cup game during the week. LNZ missed a cup match instead. And we saw that they started to sag. Players who often last 90 minutes started to sag somewhere around the 50th minute. This is an indicator of today’s game.”
“But overall we showed a very promising first half. We tried to play number one, to dominate, to press and we mostly succeeded. And the second half… Thanks to the substitutions we wanted to even out the situation. I repeat, the overall physical condition could have been better.”
“We focus on ball possession in every training session, in every game. After the match, we did not praise the boys for playing well against a strong team. Strong physically and strong due to the depth of the squad. We said that the advantage we had in the first half should have been increased. We should not be satisfied with winning 1:0 during the match and should not stick to our penalty area and keep the score. No, we should go for the second, for the third goal. If we play from a position of strength, like today, in the first half, when we are leading, then we will have prospects. And when we go to defend this score… We want to develop and stand out in this way.”
“Indeed, a heavy pitch does not help when you are physically tired. This is definitely a negative factor. Foreigners need time to adapt. We do not have the desired depth of the squad yet. They need time to adapt, there is no need to draw any conclusions now. We must understand that for now they will be unstable. Of course, the condition of the pitch was not in our favor. Especially since we were not 100% physically ready. This hindered us. But the conditions are always equal for both teams.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but talk about the present. Our goal now is to build a team. We need to create a team and make the players play the football that the coaching staff, management and Lviv fans are striving for. The first goal is to build a team.”
Karpaty took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal by Ambrosiy Chachua. However, after the break, Gennady Pasich and Muharrem Yashari brought victory to LNZ.
In the next match, Lupashko’s team will host Vorskla on August 31. The match in Lviv will be held without fans – all due to the violation of the maximum permissible number of spectators at the previous home match of Karpaty against Dynamo.
