Surinamese newcomer “Spartak” Mienti Abena said he had already listened to Russian hip-hop and respected the work of the former Red and White footballer Quincy Promesa .
In February, an Amsterdam court found Promes guilty of drug trafficking and sentenced him to six years in prison. Last summer, the footballer was sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting his cousin. In March, he was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office, and in May it was reported that the player had been released from prison under certain conditions.
Promes played for the Red and Whites from 2014 to 2018, then returned to the club in 2021. As a member of Spartak, he became Russian champion, winner of the country’s Cup and Super Cup. In early July, Spartak announced that the contract with the 32-year-old Dutchman had expired.
— You just moved to Spartak. What kind of music do you listen to?
— I like different styles of music. I even try to listen to Russian hip-hop. I think I’ll like it. I listen to a lot of Quincy Promes’ music, we speak the same language.
—Have you ever received a nickname in the team?
— The process is going well. I have wonderful teammates and coaching staff. They call me Mayo, the same one Stankovic gave me at Ferencvaros.
— Is there a story behind this nickname?
— In Dutch, they are shorts. I always wear them, that’s why they named me that. It doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer.
— Do you know the weather? It’s cold in winter.
“You will have to wear three pairs of shorts,” the correspondent reports, according to Abena’s words.
On Tuesday, Spartak lost to Dynamo Makhachkala in the home match of the third round of the group stage of the Russian Cup RPL FONBET – 0:1. The team with 6 points occupies the second place in Group A. The red-whites will play their next home match against Rubin on September 1 as part of the seventh round of the RPL WORLD.
