Kievans to play in Europa League in autumn
Head coach of Kyiv Dynamo Alexander Shovkovskiy commented on the return match with Salzburg (1:1) in the Champions League playoffs.
“The players tried to do everything they could today. And I think you can’t blame the team for not having the desire. I thanked the guys, they spent a lot of energy today. We didn’t have the result of the first match.”
“We will certainly analyse this performance again. This is a completely different level, these are Champions League matches. And I will repeat that I am proud of the team, their attitude, their attitude, their work. We strove, we tried, we pinned the opponent down at the beginning of the game, but unfortunately we missed a counterattack again and conceded a goal, although we had our moments. Of course, this is a huge experience, many players are playing on the international stage for the first time, they saw that this is a completely different level, higher speeds. This is what we strive for in our work, to improve our actions, both individual and team actions.”
“I’ve always told my players that the only person you should look back on is your past self. The only person you should be better than is your present self. I think we’ve definitely made a big step forward and I also think we’re on the right track. We have to keep going. After the failure of last year’s international performance, I think we’ve made a huge step forward and it’s just the beginning – I’m sure of that.”
“Transfer window closing? There’s nothing to talk about until these transfers happen. The selection service is working constantly, there are certain difficulties, but there’s no point in saying anything in advance.”
“I also can’t help but say a few words about how last night went in Ukraine. In particular, the hotel where the team always stayed when they went to matches in Krivoy Rog almost doesn’t exist. People died. This is our reality of our time. Of course, I want this war to end as soon as possible, of course, with our Victory, so that we can return to a normal, full life.”
Based on the aggregate score of two matches (3:1), Salzburg made it to the group stage of the Champions League. Dynamo will have to play 8 matches in the main tournament of the Europa League.
