Everton close to deal with Lyon for loan midfielder Mangala

The Toffees had already signed defender O’Brien from the Weavers earlier this summer

Everton completes lease deal with Lyon midfielder Orelya Mangalya. The agreement will include a buyout option. All personal terms have reportedly been agreed upon with the player himself.

Mangala was born in 1998. He began his career in the Anderlecht structure. Then his career included German Stuttgart and Hamburg. In 2022, Orel became a Nottingham Forest player, from where he went on loan to Lyon (second half of the 2023/24 season, 12 matches, two goals). The footballer played 47 matches in the Premier League, scored twice, gave one assist.

This summer, the Belgian’s contract was bought out by the French club for 23.4 million euros. Now Mangala is under contract with Tkachi until the summer of 2028. This season, the center half took part in the opening round match of Ligue 1 against Rennes (0:3).

Mangala could become the Toffees’ sixth summer signing, following defender Jake O’Brien (also from Lyon), midfielders Jesper Lindstrom, Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye, and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Sean Dyche’s team started the season with two big and dry defeats in the championship – from Brighton (0:3) and Tottenham (0:4). Yesterday, August 27, Everton thrashed Doncaster on their home field in the League Cup (3:0), Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Mykolenko made an assist in this match.
