Today the Miners learned their opponents in the group stage of the Champions League
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on the results of the group stage draw Champions League 2024/25.
“We are very proud to be participating in the main stage of the Champions League, where we will try to show ourselves. There are no easy opponents here, they all deserve to be here, so there will be no easy matches. We are really looking forward to the European Cup matches, we have great memories of the Champions League last season. We will be able to compare ourselves with the best, show ourselves on this stage. It is interesting with everyone – with the teams of the Premier League, and two opponents from the Bundesliga, Atalanta from Serie A. It is fantastic.”
“And we showed last season that there is always a chance. We fought and will fight. Feyenoord? I wanted my former team to get drawn, but it didn’t work out. However, all the best teams have gathered here. We want our fans to be proud of us. We will play in Germany, and we also got two German teams. It is convenient in this regard, although, unfortunately, we have already become accustomed to playing European Cup matches away from home.”
“Matches in January? There will be different preparation, the break will be shorter in winter, we will start working in the first days of January. Everything will be completely different, especially for the players, because I already worked in Europe in January. How many points we will get – we can’t guess in advance. As far as I understand, about 8 points should give a chance to get to the next round.”
The Ukrainian champion will have to play against in the new Champions League Bavaria (Houses), Borussia Dortmund (on the road), Atalanta (Houses), Arsenal (on the road), Young Boys (Houses), PSV (on the road), Brest (Houses), Bologna (on departure).
The Champions League group stage starts on September 17, 2024 and ends on January 29, 2025. Points will be counted in the overall standings. The top eight teams will advance to the 1/8 finals directly. The remaining eight spots will be played out in a knockout round among the teams ranked 9th to 24th. The teams ranked 25th to 36th will no longer compete in European competitions.
The final schedule and kick-off times for the group stage matches will be announced later, on August 31, to avoid clashes with Europa League and Conference League teams that may play in the same city on the same day.
