Ukrainians won two medals in swimming at the 2024 Paralympics. Komarov won the first gold for our country with a Paralympic record

For Aleksandr, as well as Irina Poida, the awards were not the first at the current Games

Representatives Ukraine successfully performed in swimming Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris, having won more two medals.

The first gold of this Paralympic Games was brought to our country Alexander Komarov in the 100m freestyle in the S5 class. He clocked 1:07.77 – and that’s a new Paralympic recordThe previous one, which had stood since London 2012, was improved by more than one and a half seconds.

The women’s swim at the same distance in the same class also did not go without a Ukrainian medal. It was won by Iryna Poyda with a result of 1:17.37. The Ukrainian was second only to the Tokyo champion, British Tully Kearney.

It should be noted that for both Alexander and Irina, today’s medals were not the first at the Paris Games. Earlier, both distinguished themselves in 200-meter freestyle swimming in the S5 class – Poyda became a silver medalist, Komarov won bronze. At the awards ceremony, the Ukrainian demonstratively distanced himself from the “neutral” Kirill Pulver, who showed the second result that time, and today became third.

Ukraine now has seven medals (1+4+2) at the 2024 Paralympics. Six of them were won in swimming.

The 2024 Paralympics are taking place in Paris from August 28 to September 8. The Ukrainian team is represented at the Games by 140 athletes. Ukrainians are competing in 17 of the 22 Paralympic sports – a record in the history of our country.
