The Rossoneri confidently won the first half, but in the second, Fonseca’s team had to fight back
Lazio And Milan put up a spectacular showdown in the third round of the Italian Serie Awhich did not reveal a winner – 2:2.
Paulo Fonseca seriously shook up the Milan line-up after the failure in Parma (1:2). At first it worked: the Rossoneri quickly opened the scoring (Strahinja Pavlovic headed in a corner from Christian Pulisic) and played out the rest of the half quite calmly from a position of strength.
But after the break, Lazio gradually turned the game around, with the key factor being the involvement of newcomer left-back Nuno Tavares, whose passes tore apart the visitors’ disorganised defence, and Valentin Castellanos and Boulaye Dia (another newcomer) scoring from point-blank range.
Fonseca threw two “senators”, Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao, who were benched for educational purposes, to save the result. Tammy Abraham, who was signed literally yesterday evening, also came out with them. The shock therapy worked immediately: the Portuguese, after a pass from the Englishman, pierced Ivan Provedel. It should be noted that the goalkeeper also played uncertainly in the case of the first goal.
The game continued on a collision course. Milan was eager to get their first win of the season, Lazio – to turn their second-half progress into a full-fledged comeback. But no one managed to score a third time. Abraham had a good chance in injury time, but Provedel saved it.
Milan are at the bottom of the table with two points. Lazio have four points after three rounds. After the international break, Fonseca’s team will host Venice, while the Romans will also play Verona at home.
