The Dynamo Kyiv head coach shared his impressions of the Champions League qualifying match.

The match against Sturm was very difficult and I couldn’t believe until the end that Dynamo could win. This was said in the post-match press conference by Kiev head coach Mircea Lucescu.

According to the specialist, Sturm is a very strong and young team charged to win. But the “white-blue” withstood the first onslaught and put the squeeze on a tired opponent at the end of the game.

“It was an incredibly difficult match against a very good team. If before the Fenerbahce match I was calm and confident that we could win, now everything is different. I know that we are facing a very strong team, physically fit, with young, enthusiastic players.

Sturm knows how to play qualifying and is very motivated. In such a situation, we need to prevent the opponent from controlling the game and gaining a positional advantage. Instead, they want to make them move without the ball. As we saw, in the last 30 minutes the Sturm players could not continue playing their game.

As for Vivcharenko, he played well in attack and, as a result, he scored. I assume that the appearance of Vivcharenko and Karavaev on the field will change the game, because they are players of a more attacking plan.

The replacement of Garmash was because he started to get nervous and protest, which is unacceptable for an experienced professional player. His replacement is connected to this, because he can create big problems for our team,” Lucescu told Dynamo’s official website.

It will be remembered that Dynamo beat the Austrian Sturm 2:1 on the road. The Kyiv team scored both goals in extra time. Today, in the playoffs of the tournament qualifiers, the Kyivans will meet with Benfica.
