Mario left without a club after parting ways with Adana Demirspor
Famous Italian forward Mario Balotelli may continue his career in the United States. As journalist Nicolo Schira reported, FC San Diego requested information about the 34-year-old footballer, who is currently a free agent.
Balotelli’s last club was Turkish Adana Demirspor, where the Italian returned in September 2023. Last season, SuperMario played 16 matches in the Turkish Super League, scoring seven goals and making one assist. He also received six yellow cards and one red card. The striker missed a significant part of the campaign due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery.
In addition to Demirspor, Balotelli has played for Inter, Manchester City, Milan, Liverpool, Nice, Marseille, Brescia, Monza and Sion during his career. He scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 36 matches for the Italian national team, with which he became vice-champion of Europe in 2012. Mario last played for the national team exactly six years ago.
San Diego FC was officially formed in May 2023 and is still in the process of forming a team. The California club aims to join MLS in 2025.
San Diego has already signed one high-profile player with a Serie A background this summer: Mexican winger Hirving Lozano, an Italian champion with Napoli.
