Ludmila and Elena will play in their fourth joint semifinal of a Grand Slam tournament
Ukrainian tennis player Ludmila Kichenok and her partner Elena Ostapenko from Latvia reached the semi-finals of the doubles tournament US Open 2024.
In the quarterfinal match, Kichenok and Ostapenko defeated Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and “neutral” Irina Khromacheva. The match lasted almost two hours.
The fate of the first set was decided in a tie-break – 7:2 in favor of Kichenok and Ostapenko. In the second set, Lyudmila and Elena made a break in the seventh game and brought the matter to a final victory – 6:4.
In the semifinals, Kichenok and Ostapenko, seeded seventh, will play the winners of the match Gabriela Dabrowski / Erin Routliff (Canada / New Zealand, 1) – Zhan Haoqing / Veronika Kudermetova (Chinese Taipei / -, 10).
The Kichenok/Ostapenko duo will play in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the fourth time. Let us recall that in January 2024, Lyudmila and Elena reached the final of the Australian Open, where they lost to Xie Shuwei and Elise Mertens.
