Artem Dovbik was nominated for the Ballon d’Or

The Ukrainian forward went down in history thanks to his successful performances in Girona and the title of the top scorer in La Liga.

Ukraine national team forward Artem Dovbik made history. The Roma forward received a nomination for the Ballon d’Or award – the best football player in the world.

Last year the footballer played for Dnepr-1 and Girona, with the latter he reached the Champions League and became the top scorer of the Spanish championship.

Let’s add that for the first time since 2006, a Ukrainian football player was nominated for this prestigious award. Then the legendary Andrei Shevchenko, whose collection already included ZM-2004, received recognition.

In 2006, Shevchenko did not receive a single vote, and Fabio Cannavaro won the award.

Apart from Dovbik and Shevchenko, in the 21st century, no Ukrainian was on the list of contenders for the main individual award.
