The President of the UAF commented on the latest failures of the Ukrainian national football team.
Sergei Rebrov will remain in his post. Despite failing at Euro 2024 and losing two consecutive Nations League matches, the specialist will not be fired. This was announced by UAF President Andrey Shevchenko.
The functionary also welcomed the Ukrainian youth team with early access to the 2025 European Championship.
“I want to congratulate the Ukrainian youth team on reaching the European Championship. Unai Melgosa’s team is showing very good results in the group, winning all the matches.”
I am grateful to Sergei Rebrov, under his leadership we see progress in the work and results of the entire vertical of the teams.
Ahead of us, in addition to the Youth Euro, was the World Championship (U-20), where Dmitry Mikhailenko’s team made it. Along with the entry of the adult national team to the Euro, we have achieved comprehensive success in the work of the coaching team, which is now working with our national teams.
Therefore, we see prospects in the chosen vector of work and fully trust Sergei Rebrov. He has complete carte blanche to implement ideas and experiments.
Unsuccessful results at the start of the Nations League will not change our strategy. The task of the UAF is to contribute to the fulfillment of the global goal – the participation of the national team in the World Cup. We are just at the beginning of a two-year cycle and are comprehensively evaluating the work of the teams. Sergei Rebrov and his team have a lot of work ahead of them, and we continue to support him,” UAF quoted Shevchenko as saying.
