You can’t change coaches in a national team after two losses – Wirth

Yuri Virt has backed Sergei Rebrov and believes the national team coach cannot be changed after the Euro 2024 disappointment and two successive Nations League defeats.

At the same time, the former goalkeeper of the national team wants to give the staff time to fix the situation and expects the results to change within a month.

“I think there should be an analysis – try to change the game in terms of starting to act aggressively from the first minutes against such teams that we are not inferior in name to Albania, the Czech Republic or Georgia.

I just want to see the team ready to play from the first minutes. Now, if he starts to act aggressively like this, when he moves the ball to the opponent’s half of the field and covers it there, then you can see the changes. There is still a month – the coaching staff led by Rebrov will evaluate it, and first of all, we will see a different result and a more aggressive game.

Of course, we can’t change the coach after two losses. There is a clear task for Rebrov – to get to the 2026 World Cup. I think everything is just getting started – we have two tournaments. Give me a guarantee that tomorrow another coach will come instead of Rebrov – and the team will win everything. This is just the beginning of a new two-year cycle. There’s really no need to talk about it now. Now there is a crisis of results. I am confident that the team will get out of this situation. The most important thing is to show such aggressive football with the result,” the Tribune quoted Virt as saying.
