The head coach of the national team also answered a question about the possible resignation of his post.

Despite two successive defeats in the League of Nations and failure at Euro 2024, Sergei Rebrov will not resign. The head coach of the Ukrainian national team said this in an interview after the match against the Czech Republic.

Additionally, the mentor said defensive mistakes were the reason his players lost to the Czechs.

“We are upset with the result, because we lost an important match for us. But I thank the players, they tried to save the match. I think that in the first half the Czech Republic was very aggressive, it was difficult to create. In this match, everything was decided by the mistakes we made in defense Even though we scored two goals… The second half was intense, interesting, we could have scored more.

I haven’t resigned yet. Just a moment.

We will work, we will review candidates. I’m sure there are new candidates. These are both group and individual mistakes. Unfortunately, today we lost. I think we have a lot to do, it’s important now. So, right now we have zero points. What is the goal of the Ukrainian national team today? Go to the World Championships. We will get there through qualifying and Nations League matches. League of Nations matches are very important for us. I thank the players, they gave everything to win today. I have been working with the team for over a year. During this period, if not the European Championship, I met with football players for a maximum of three weeks. Therefore it is very difficult. I’m sure we have something to do. We will correct our mistakes.

I didn’t say we didn’t play aggressively. So, the Czech Republic behaved very aggressively at home. But we also tried to win the ball, after the missed goal we put a lot of pressure, and equalized the score thanks to pressing and tackling. I can’t say we’re not aggressive. And in the second half we tried to do everything. I say again, I thank the players, they did everything. If you count how many chances we made, it will be enough for several games.

Before the game I saw how many Ukrainian flags there were, it was amazing. We thank not only the Ukrainians, but also the Czechs who supported the Ukrainian team, including against Albania, and the last time we were here. We are always pleased to play in the Czech Republic. We are grateful to all the fans who support us and Ukraine,” UAF quoted Rebrov as saying.

We remind you that the Ukrainian national team suffered its second consecutive defeat in the 2024/25 Nations League, losing a match to the Czech Republic with a score of 2:3.
