Shakhtar have won only seven of their 31 matches against Serie A teams
September 18th match against Bologna Shakhtar will begin its performances in Champions League 2024/2025. Bologna will become the ninth Italian club that Shakhtar will meet in an official match. Statistics of the Miners’ confrontation with representatives of Serie A – disappointing for the Donetsk team: seven wins, five draws and 19 losses in 31 matches. And yours Shakhtar’s last and second ever victory in Italy was five years ago.

Bologna is Shakhtar’s ninth Italian opponent
The miners have never met Bologna in official matches. In total, as mentioned above, Shakhtar has played 31 matches with representatives of Serie A.
The Donetsk team met Roma more often than others – eight matches (four wins, four losses), Inter – seven matches (four draws and three losses). Shakhtar played four matches against Milan and Juventus: they lost all four matches to the first team, won one, lost two and ended two in a draw.
The Miners played two matches each against Napoli, Lazio, Atalanta and Vicenza.
Without victories over four clubs
Of the eight Italian opponents, Shakhtar have never beaten four. In addition to the already mentioned Milan and Inter, the Miners could not beat Lazio and Vicenza. Shakhtar lost both matches to each of the teams.
Two victories in Italy
Shakhtar’s situation with matches in Italy is even worse. The miners have won only two of 15 away matches against Italian clubs (we will not count the nominally away match against Inter in the 2019/2020 Europa League semi-final, which took place in Dusseldorf). Moreover, Shakhtar achieved its last and second victory in Italy in history five years ago.
Then, on October 1, 2019, as part of the group stage of the 2019/2020 Champions League, the Miners, led by Luis Castro, beat Atalanta in Bergamo (2:1), thanks to goals from Moraes and Solomon.
Another victory for Shakhtar in Italy dates back to February 2011. In the first leg of the 1/8 finals of the 2010/2011 Champions League, Shakhtar, under the leadership of Mircea Lucescu, beat Roma of Claudio Ranieri in Rome – 3:2, thanks to goals from Jadson, Douglas Costa and Luis Adriano. Then there was a 3:0 home victory.
And yes, in addition to two wins in Italy, the Miners have three draws and 10 losses.
