President of the Armenian Football Club “Pyunik »Arthur Soghomonyan said he decided to put it up for sale due to a conflict with the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA).
— Dear friends, I want to share with you a decision that was not easy for me. I decided to create a club [на продажу]. Unfortunately, the situation has long gone beyond the scope of professional ethics and common sense and has turned into a personal confrontation, which greatly harms the team, the fans, the academy and, most importantly, the reputation of Armenian football.
For more than two years, I and the Pyunik football club have been fighting against the indignation, aggression and incompetence of the leadership of the football federation. Over the past four years, five Major League clubs and six major investors have left Armenian football, declaring the impossibility of working with the incompetent leadership of the federation. Unfortunately, I have come to the same conclusion. This is a very painful decision for me, but a balanced one, because I really do not see the point in continuing to work in such an unhealthy atmosphere,” Soghomonyan said in a statement published on the club’s website.
He stressed that he would continue to invest in Armenian sports and would be ready to invest again in top-level football in the country when the FFA leadership changes.
“I am sure that there will be people interested in continuing the glorious history of Pyunik Football Club, which in recent years has not only achieved high results, but has also become widely known in Armenia and abroad. I want to reassure the parents and students of Pyunik Football Academy; I will continue to invest in the development of the youth academy, all our students will continue to perform in their age categories.
I am not leaving Armenian sports and will continue my investments, because I believe that the development of sports is very important for our republic. I will be ready to return to football when the leadership of the federation changes and people interested in the development of football in Armenia come.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been with us for seven years, supporting us, experiencing things with us and rejoicing in our victories. We have truly achieved historic results and I am proud to have become a part of this big and friendly family that is the Pyunik football club,” Soghomonyan said.
Pyunik scored 7 points and ranks 5th in the Armenian championship standings. The team is a 16-time winner of the national championship.
