Viktor Tsygankov’s team missed out on a draw due to a mistake by goalkeeper Paulo Gassaniga at the end of the match
Head coach Girona Michel commented on the away defeat from PSG (0:1) in the opening round of the Champions League group stage.
“I think we did well. We are a modest club, this is our first appearance in the Champions League, we rose to the challenge. This game will be a lesson for us and a chance to improve in the future. Paris were better, especially in the second half. They put us under a lot of pressure, especially with Luis Enrique’s fantastic counter-pressing.”
“We will pick up points little by little. I am sure that we will be competitive in every match. It is not easy to come here, but we gradually got into the game. We showed our individuality.”
“We worked for three years. We deserve to be here. I’m a little sad about the result, but we’ll get through it.”
Girona’s Ukrainian winger Viktor Tsygankov came out in the starting lineup and was substituted in the 88th minute of the match.
Girona play their next Champions League game on October 2, when Michel’s team hosts Feyenoord. They play their next La Liga game on Saturday, September 21, away to Valencia.
