Bologna captain Orsolini: If there was a team that should have scored, it was us

Bologna and Shakhtar start with 0-0 draw in Champions League group stage

Winger Bologna Riccardo Orsolini commented on the draw against Miner (0:0) in the opening round Champions League.

“After a few moments of initial excitement, there were still strong emotions because it was my first match in the Champions League. Not only for me, but for many other teammates. Once we got over that, we tried to play, but we knew we were up against an opponent who immediately put us in a difficult position.”

“We could have conceded after the penalty was awarded, but Skorupski did a very good job of neutralising it. If there was a team that should have scored, it probably should have been us. We had moments with Fabbian and Castro, and we could have taken the lead several times. Super positive attitude, at the end of the first half the coach praised us because Shakhtar didn’t have a single shot on goal. We are happy with the point we got – it could have been zero, but it could have been three.”

At the very beginning of the match, a virtuoso pass from Matvienko across the entire field allowed Eginald to jump into a scoring position and expose himself to a foul by Stefan Posch. The appointed penalty was not converted by Shakhtar leader Georgiy Sudakov – his shot was saved by Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.

Subsequently, Bologna attacked more sharply, had two big chances to score at the turn of the halves, but Gornyakov goalkeeper Dmitry Riznyk played flawlessly. The result was a natural draw 0:0.

In the second round of the Champions League, Bologna will face Liverpool away on October 2. Shakhtar will host Atalanta in Gelsenkirchen on the same day.

Vincenzo Italno’s team will play their next match on September 22 away against Monza.
