Former footballer “Spartak” Quincy Promes did not fly from the United Arab Emirates to the Netherlands for the court hearings, journalist Wesley Meyer reported on the social network.
The first hearing in a Dutch court on the footballer’s appeal against his prison sentence was scheduled for September 20. It is a preliminary hearing during which the status of the investigation and the wishes of the defense are discussed.
In the Netherlands, Promes was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for stabbing his cousin, and then to six years for trafficking a large quantity of cocaine in 2021. The footballer, who is now in Dubai, has appealed both verdicts.
Promes played for the Red and Whites from 2014 to 2018, then returned to the club in 2021. At Spartak, he became the Russian champion, winner of the Russian Cup and Super Cup. In early July, Spartak announced that the contract with the player had expired.
