Kobin: We looked better in the game before the break, but made another mistake in the final minutes

Ingulets squandered victory over Veres by conceding a penalty in injury time

Head coach Ingulets Vasily Kobin commented on the draw in the match with Veres (2:2) in the seventh round Ukrainian Premier League.

“The emotions are mixed right now. We looked better in the game before the break. We created chances and were leading 2-0. A good quality team will never let an opponent go with such a score. Unfortunately, we are making mistakes again in the last minutes. This speaks of the players’ concentration. Or the lack of experience in playing at a high level.”

“A penalty? My opinion is that Veres’ player won the ball in the air and then ran into our player. But that’s not the point. Fifteen seconds later, VAR checked the episode. That’s the most surprising thing. It seems like it should be like that. After the goalkeeper saves a penalty – the same thing – a decision to retake it is made very quickly.”

“Were there any special feelings before the game against the team you once played for? I prepared the players for the fact that there is a good team and great fans here. I am grateful to them for the period when I was in this team. They always supported us well.”

“Today we understood that both teams needed points. That’s why I set my players up for an uncompromising fight. But, in addition to the fight, there was a lot of good football today.”

Ingulets were winning after the first half, scoring two goals before the break. However, the hosts first reduced the deficit in the second half, and then snatched a draw, converting a penalty in stoppage time.

Kobin’s team is in 14th place in the UPL, having earned four points. Ingulets’ next match will be away against Obolon on September 29.
