Ter Stegen risks being sidelined for up to eight months with knee injury

Barcelona goalkeeper injured in match against Villarreal

Goalkeeper Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen risks missing up to eight months due to a knee injury.

The German goalkeeper landed awkwardly on his foot in the match against Villarreal (5:1) at the end of the first half. The goalkeeper was taken off the field in a special vehicle.

The first examination showed a tendon injury in his right knee. The goalkeeper is expected to be out for seven to eight months. Official information regarding the injury is expected from the team on Monday.

Ter Stegen reportedly suffered a knee injury, which the goalkeeper underwent surgery on in the spring of 2021. The goalkeeper then missed the start of the next season.

Barcelona are top of La Liga with six wins out of six. Hans-Dieter Flick’s side will host Getafe on September 25 in their next round.
