The German goalkeeper’s recovery process could take up to eight months
Goalkeeper Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen Today I successfully underwent surgery.
The German goalkeeper landed awkwardly on his foot in the match against Villarreal (5:1) at the end of the first half. The goalkeeper was taken off the field in a special vehicle, and his place in the goal frame was taken by Iñaki Peña.
The examination revealed a tendon injury in his right knee. It was previously reported that the goalkeeper would be recovering for seven to eight months.
Ter Stegen suffered an injury to the same right knee that the goalkeeper underwent surgery on in the spring of 2021, which is why he missed Euro 2020. The goalkeeper then missed the start of the next season.
Barcelona are top of La Liga having won six of their opening six games. Hans-Dieter Flick’s side will host Getafe on September 25 in their next round.
