Ukrainian specialist Vitaly Potapenko joined the coaching staff Detroitwhere he will work as an assistant to the team’s head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
In addition to Potapenko, Detroit’s coaching staff includes Luke Walton, Sidney Lowe, Fred Winson, Kevin Burleson, Jerome Allen and Josh Estes.
During his playing career, Potapenko played in the NBA from 1996 to 2007. He defended the colors of Cleveland, Boston, Seattle and Sacramento.
During his coaching career, the Ukrainian worked as an assistant head coach in Cleveland (2013-2017) and Memphis (2018-2024).
Detroit finished last in the Eastern Conference last season, winning only 14 of 82 games in the NBA regular season.
Detroit will officially open the new NBA season on the night of October 23-24 with a home game against Indiana.
