Chernomorets’ victory over Lazio
September 25 match against Lazio at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg Dynamo starts in the group stage Europa League. The upcoming fight is the fifth in history confrontation between Dynamo and Lazio. And although the president of the Kyiv club Igor Surkis stated that his team’s goal is to win, it will be difficult for the white-blues to take three points. In 12 matches with Ukrainian teams, Lazio lost only once. And that defeat happened 49 years ago. Let’s remember.
Five Ukrainian rivals of Lazio
The Eagles have met five Ukrainian clubs in their history – Chornomorets, Dnipro, Donetsk Metalurh, Shakhtar and Dynamo. In total, the Romans have played 12 matches with representatives of Ukraine. Nine – they won, two – ended in a draw, one – they lost.
Lazio lost two matches each to Shakhtar and Metallurg, and Dnipro (there was also a draw) and Chernomorets (there was also a defeat) lost one match each.
Dynamo – Lazio: the white-blues have three defeats in four matches
The Kyivans have met Lazio more often than other Ukrainian teams – four matches. The white-blues lost three matches to the Romans, ending one match in a draw: also in the 2017/2018 Europa League, but already at the 1/8 final stage the Kyivans played a draw in Rome – 2:2, but lost in Kyiv – 0:2.
Before that, there were two defeats in the 1999/2000 Champions League group: 1:2 in Rome and 0:1 in Kyiv.
Which Ukrainian clubs beat Lazio?
Lazio suffered its only defeat in the confrontation with Ukrainian teams in its first match with representatives of our country. In the first round of the 1975/1976 UEFA Cup on September 17, 1975, Lazio lost to Chornomorets in Odessa – 0:1. The goal for the Odessans was scored by Anatoliy Doroshenko.
In Rome, the Odessans were a minute short of advancing to the next round. In the 89th minute of the match, Giorgio Chinaglia equalized the score from a penalty kick, and in added time, forward Orlov scored twice more.
Dynamo vs Italian clubs
The white-blues have not played well against representatives of Serie A. Dynamo has played 26 matches against Italian teams, achieving only two victories, eight draws and 16 defeats.
Dynamo beat Roma twice in four matches (there were two more defeats) but were unable to achieve victories in the confrontations, except for Lazio, with Juventus (five defeats and a draw), Fiorentina (three draws and three defeats), Inter (two draws and two defeats) and Napoli (a draw and a defeat).
The last time Dynamo beat an Italian club was almost 20 years ago, when they beat Roma 2-0 in Kyiv in a Champions League group stage match on November 23, 2004.
