An extremely difficult three points for Ivan Jurich’s team
On Stadio Olimpico the 6th round match took place Serie A — Roma won a strong-willed victory over a newcomer to the elite division Venice (2:1).
The scoring was opened in the 44th minute – Gianluca Busio’s shot hit the post, but Venice captain Yoel Pohjanpalo was the quickest to finish.
Roma restored the status quo in the 74th minute – Brian Cristante’s long-range shot hit the same Busio’s leg and ricocheted off it into Jesse Joronen’s goal. The victory for the Romans was brought by 20-year-old midfielder Niccolo Pisilli, who scored with a header after a corner kick.
Roma forward Artem Dovbik was in the starting lineup and played the entire 90 minutes on the field. The Ukrainian’s three-match scoring streak ended – before the match with Venice, Dovbik alternately scored against Genoa and Udinese in Serie A, as well as in the Europa League against Athletic.
Thus, Roma gains 9 points and rises to ninth place in the Serie A standings. Venice is in the relegation zone in 18th place – it has only 4 points.
Roma will play their next match on October 3 away against Elfsborg in the Europa League. In Serie A, Ivan Jurich’s team will play away against Monza on October 6, and Venice will face Verona away on October 4.
