On the reverse in the center of the composition there is a stylized image of a champion athlete
Ukrainian boxer, UNITED24 ambassador, holder of WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight belts Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs) commented on the release of a coin from the National Bank of Ukraine, which is dedicated to his victory over Tyson Fury.
“I am grateful for such a high honor, but I want to emphasize that this coin symbolizes all athletes fighting for medals for our country, as well as all those who defend Ukraine with arms in hand.”
“Our victories are also a reminder to the world that Ukrainians are fighting for their lives, for their loved ones.”
Today the NBU issued a special coin in honor of Usyk. The issue is dedicated to the Ukrainian winning the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
On the reverse in the center of the composition there is a stylized image of a champion athlete against the background of the outline of the Motherland monument – a symbol of the indestructibility and strength of the Ukrainian people. At the bottom left and right of the champion’s silhouette are the inscriptions: 05/18/2024 (date of the fight), ABSOLUTE and UNDISPUTED (the title won by the athlete).
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
Alexander is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles to become the absolute champion in two weight categories.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
