In a grueling match, the Spaniard lost the first set, but then managed to make a comeback and win a strong-willed victory in the tiebreaker
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz won a strong-willed victory over the first racket of the world, the Italian Jannik Sinnerin the final of the tournament ATP 500 in Beijing.
The fight lasted almost three and a half hours. The Spaniard disappointingly missed the first set, in which he led 4:1 and 5:2, and at 6:5 he did not convert the set point. Twice Alcaraz was one step away from winning a tiebreaker, but still the world ranking leader managed to keep this game behind him.
In the second set, Carlos took revenge – the decisive break was a successful break in the ninth game. In the decisive game, the Spanish tennis player again lost his two-game advantage, and Sinner started the tiebreak with 3:0 in his favor, but now it was his opponent’s turn to make a comeback. Seven points in a row – and the title is in your pocket.
Thanks to this strong-willed victory, Alcaraz was able to interrupt Sinner’s 16-match winning streak, which included, in particular, a triumph at the US-Open. The Spaniard, in turn, won his fourth title of the season, including victories at two majors – Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Carlos also reached the final of the Paris Olympics 2024, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
Let us remember that a week ago Alcaraz qualified for the ATP Finals 2024, following Sinner and German tennis player Alexander Zverev.
