The referee stopped the fight in the ninth round after two left hooks by Alimkhanuly
IBF and WBO world middleweight champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (16-0, 11 KO) knocked out the New Zealand flag fighter Andrey Mikhailovich (21-1, 13 KOs).
Alimkhanuly’s advantage was obvious from the very first rounds, and after the equator of the fight, the advantage of the Kazakh boxer became overwhelming. As a result, in the ninth round, after two left hooks performed by Alimkhanuly, Mikhailovich fell onto the ropes and the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
Let us remind you that this fight was supposed to take place on July 13, but was postponed due to the hospitalization of Zhanibek Alimkhanuly due to dehydration.
Alimkhanuly won the WBO title in May 2022, defeating Danny Dignum by knockout in the second round. Subsequently, the Kazakhstani successfully defended the belt several times. And in October 2023, he added the IBF title to it after winning by technical knockout over Vincenzo Gualtieri.
