De Bruyne and Lukaku asked Tedesco not to call them up for the Belgium national team for the Nations League matches in October

Belgium will play against Italy on October 10, against France on October 14

Head coach Belgium national team Domenico Tedesco stated that the leaders of his team are midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and forward Romelu Lukaku asked not to be called up to the national team for the October matches League of Nations.

“I had a long phone conversation with De Bruyne. He has an injury, but he is very motivated to continue his career in the national team and play at the World Cup in 2026. He asked to miss this training camp, as well as matches in November, to take care of his body. The schedule became even busier. Partly because of the Club World Cup. But when it really matters, at the World Cup, he will be with the team.”

“It’s the same situation with Romelu Lukaku. He joined Napoli late in the summer transfer window and does not yet feel 100 percent physically fit. So he asked us for individual work.”

Kevin De Bruyne made 108 appearances for Belgium and scored 30 goals. Romelu Lukaku has 119 matches in the national team and scored 85 goals. Both players are representatives of the “golden generation” of Belgian football, the pinnacle of which was winning bronze medals at the 2018 World Cup.

De Bruyne has been in Manchester City hospital for the past two weeks with a thigh injury. Romelu Lukaku is improving with every match for Napoli – he has 3 goals and 4 assists in 5 matches for the club in this Serie A.

Belgium started in the Nations League with a home victory over Israel (3:1) and an away defeat against France (0:2).

Domenico Tedesco’s team will play their next match on October 10 away against Italy, after which they will host France at home on October 14.
