The forward will be able to play for the national team in October
Supreme Sports Court reduced the disqualification of the national team forward Uruguay to Darwin Nunez.
The Liverpool player at Copa America 2024 could not contain his emotions – and climbed into the stands to meet the fans. The fight took place after Uruguay lost to Colombia in the Copa semi-finals.
Nunes was given a five-match ban, of which he served two. The appeal allowed Darwin to be included in the Uruguayans’ bid for the October window.
It is noted that this decision to lift the disqualification is temporary. So Nunez has the option of either forfeiting his suspension entirely or serving it (three remaining games) at a later date.
Thus, the Liverpool striker could be among those whom Marcelo Bielsa will entrust with a place in the starting lineup for the October 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Peru (October 11) and Ecuador (October 15).
Uruguay, after eight qualifying matches, is in third place in the standings with 15 points.
