Leverkusen failed to win Xabi Alonso’s 100th match at the helm of the club
On Bay Arena the 6th round match took place Bundesliga — Bayer unexpectedly lost points in a match with a newcomer to the elite division Holstein Kilem (2:2).
At the same time, Leverkusen had a strong start to the match – Victor Boniface opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and Jonas Hofmann doubled it in the 8th minute.
Holstein Kiel pulled one goal back just before the break through the efforts of Maxime Geschwill.
In the middle of the second half, the guests earned the right to a penalty – Jann-Fiete Arp came to the point and beat Lukas Hradecky, thereby setting the final score on the scoreboard.
Thus, Bayer was unable to congratulate its head coach Xabi Alonso on the victory, for whom this match was his 100th at the head of the Leverkusen club. Bayer have won only 3 of their 6 opening Bundesliga matches – they are sixth in the standings. Holstein Kiel scored its second point – the newcomer to the elite division is based in 17th place, ahead of only Bochum.
Bayer will play their next match on October 19 at home against Eintracht Frankfurt, and Holstein Kiel will host Union Berlin at home on October 20.
