The first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk successfully started the tournament WTA 1000 V Wuhan (China).
The Ukrainian had to endure an extremely difficult fight against Elina Avanesyan, representing Armenia. The match lasted two hours and 38 minutes.
Marta started the first set with a lost serve, but then took four games in a row. With the score 4:3 in her favor, the Ukrainian tennis player went to break five times, but did not take advantage of any of these chances. In the tenth game, Kostyuk won back a set point five times, but still lost the game.
In the second set, the opponents were neck and neck for a long time. Then the Ukrainian took the lead 5:3, but her opponent equalized the score. And yet, the final word remained with Kostyuk – 7:5.
Marta started the third game right off the bat – 3:0. But it was not possible to keep the handicap. Avanesyan managed to make the score 4:4, and subsequently came back twice more. And yet, Kostyuk managed to triumph in the tiebreaker – starting with the score 2:2, the Ukrainian won five draws in a row (7:2).
In the second round of the tournament in Wuhan, March, seeded 13th, will face Amanda Anisimova from the USA.
Let us remind you that another Ukrainian continues to fight at the event – Lesya Tsurenko, who tomorrow, October 9, will fight Magda Linett from Poland. At the same time, Yulia Starodubtseva dropped out in the final qualifying round, and Dayana Yastremskaya was unable to overcome the first round.
