Deryugina elected new president of the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation

Since 2015, the federation has been permanently headed by Alexander Sukhomlin

Irina Deryugina was officially confirmed as president today Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation. All delegates unanimously voted for this at the extraordinary UFG conference.

Reportedly, Irina will combine her new position with the post of head of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation of Ukraine, as well as the work of the head coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team. The functionary will also continue to work as a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

The head of the UFG has changed for the first time in nine years. Since 2015, the president of the federation has been Alexander Sukhomlin, who recently decided to resign of his own free will.

In the late 1970s, Deryugina became world champion four times (twice absolute) and once European champion in rhythmic gymnastics. Subsequently, Irina switched to coaching, worked for a long time in a duet with her mother Albina, raising many world and European champions, Olympic champions and medalists. For 21 years she was married to the famous football player and coach Oleg Blokhin.
