Greek Football Federation turned to UEFA asking to allow players national team for the next two matches League of Nations come out in mourning bands in memory of George Baldock.

Let us remind you that a few hours ago it became known about the tragic death of the defender of Pnathinaikos and the Greek national team. The 31-year-old footballer was found dead in the swimming pool of a house he rented in Athens.

Baldock was born in England and played for Milton Keynes Dons, Oxford United, and the main club in the defender’s career was Sheffield United, to which he devoted seven years of his career, defending their colors from 2017 to 2024.

In the summer of 2024, Baldock moved to Panathinaikos, for which he played his last match on October 6 in the Greek Championship against Olympiacos (0:0).

The player had Greek roots, which allowed him to make his debut in the Greek national team in 2022. Baldock played 12 matches for Hellenes, 5 of which were in Euro 2024 qualification.

Greece started the current Nations League with two victories. Ivan Jovanovic’s team started with two victories – home over Finland (3:0) and away over Ireland (2:0).

Today, October 10, the Greeks will play away against England (the meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time), and three days later they will host Ireland in Piraeus.
