On August 26 last year, Usyk knocked out Dubois in the ninth round
IBF heavyweight belt holder Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KO) declared his readiness to take revenge on the world champion according to WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight titles Alexandra Usika (22-0, 14 KOs).
“With Usyk it’s definitely unfinished business and my next fight with him will have a completely different result. I’ll walk right through it.”
“I have changed as a person and as a fighter. Every fight I fought, every defeat led me to this moment. I have improved a lot. Everything around us has gotten better, the coaches, the staff, even the things we do in the gym. This changed everything for me.”
“But I want one more fight with AJ first. If he wants it, I want it too.”
On August 26 last year in Wroclaw, Usyk fought with Dubois. In the fifth round, Usyk found himself on the floor after Dubois hit the Ukrainian below the belt.
The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued. Dubois said the hit was clean and he was deprived of a legitimate victory.
At the end of the eighth round, Usik knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.
In his last fight, which took place in London on September 21, Dubois defeated Anthony Joshua. Daniel knocked down AJ three times and knocked out his opponent in the fifth round. Dubois defended the IBF title, which he received after Oleksandr Usyk abandoned it.
The Joshua-Dubois fight set a new record for the largest number of spectators in the 21st century for a boxing match. The boxing evening at Wembley Stadium in London was attended by 98,128 people.
On the night of May 18-19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Oleksandr Usyk will prepare for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia. Tyson Fury said he will begin training six to seven weeks before the fight.
