Southgate: I definitely won’t be coaching next year. I need to give myself time to make the right decisions.

Gareth Southgate left the England team after losing the Euro 2024 final to Spain (1:2)

Ex-mentor England international Gareth Southgate stated that he does not plan to rush into returning to coaching.

“I definitely won’t be coaching next year. I’m sure of it. I need to give myself time to make the right decisions. This is an important step and I need time.”

Southgate captained England from 2016 to 2024. After the defeat in the Euro 2024 final from Spain (1:2), the specialist resigned from his position, and England played a total of 102 matches under his leadership.

At the 2018 World Cup, Southgate’s team lost to Belgium in the third-place match, and at the 2022 World Cup they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by France.

Together with Southgate, the English team reached the European Championship finals in 2020 and 2024, but failed in both cases. At Euro 2020 they lost to Italy in a penalty shootout, and at Euro 2024 England lost to Spain.

At Euro 2024, the coach became the third coach in the history of the European Championships to lead his team to two consecutive finals.
