The prosecution has the right to appeal this verdict
The Reykjavik court found the attacker not guilty at first instance Fiorentina Albert Gudmundsson in a sexual harassment case.
The trial took place behind closed doors to protect the alleged victim’s privacy. What is known is that the subject of the hearing was the events that occurred in Iceland in the summer of 2023. The prosecution retains the right to appeal.
The footballer commented on the court verdict:
“As the father of two children, including a young daughter, and the brother of three younger sisters, I sincerely hope that this case does not cause harm to other women who have actually been victims of violence. Now I can move on with my life and focus on what I do best.”
27-year-old Gudmundsson proved himself in Genoa, where last season, partnering with Ukrainian Ruslan Malinovsky, he scored 16 goals and made 5 assists in 37 matches.
In August, Albert moved to Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. According to media reports, the lease will cost the Violets 8 million euros, and a possible future buyout will cost another 17 million + 3 million in bonuses.
The Icelander made his debut for the new club only at the end of September, having recovered from injury. He managed to take part in four matches and in two of them brought Fiorentina victory – over Lazio in the fifth round (2:1, double) and over Milan in the seventh (2:1, decisive goal).
The Violets are in 11th place in the championship with 10 points after seven rounds. In the Conference League, Raffaele Palladino’s team started with a home victory over the New Saints (2:0).
