Former Russian national team defender Yuri Kovtun expressed the hope that Moscow “Spartacus” will be able to compete for WORLD medals in the Russian Premier League (RPL).
After 11 rounds of the RPL, Spartak is in sixth place in the standings with 19 points. In the next round, the “red-whites” will host “Krasnodar” on October 19.
— There are a sufficient number of games. If you don’t score points, you won’t advance in the rankings. Whoever the opponent is, you must win.
— Isn’t a seven-point gap to third place a death sentence?
— There were even larger gaps that have been reduced. Many Spartak matches ended in a draw. These victories were not enough. A gap from first place is immediately created.
— Will the fact that Spartak finishes outside the top three be considered a failure?
— I think that after all, a fairly qualified coach was invited to Spartak. At the moment, everyone is waiting for the team to take the plunge. Fans probably aren’t satisfied yet. And the coach must have strong motivation,” Kovtun said, as quoted by RB Sport.
