The operation was originally supposed to take place in October, but was postponed due to matches of the Romanian national team in the 2024/25 Nations League
Head coach Romanian national team Mircea Lucescu will be operated on for the second time in two years Kyiv.
Coxarthrosis, the slow degradation of articular cartilage in the hip that caused him severe pain in the spring of 2023, forcing him to have surgery on his left hip, is affecting the specialist again. And this time he will have surgery on his right hip.
In November, and most likely in December, after the completion of the matches of the Romanian national team in the 2024/25 Nations League, Lucescu in Kyiv will go under the knife of the main Ukrainian orthopedic surgeon Alexander Kosyakov, who specializes in this disease. The operation will be performed at the National Center of Orthopedics and Traumatology in Kyiv. Kosyakov performed Lucescu’s first operation in the spring of 2023.
Lucescu’s coaching career has been going on for 47 years. From 2004 to 2016, the Romanians were led by Shakhtar. With the Miners, the specialist won 22 trophies, including becoming the champion of Ukraine 8 times.
From the summer of 2020 to November 2023, Mircea worked at the head of Dynamo, and in the first season, under the leadership of the Romanian, the Kiev team became the champion of Ukraine, and also won the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.
Lucescu signed a two-year contract with the Romanian national team in August 2024. His goal is a successful performance in the League of Nations, as well as reaching the finals of the 2026 World Cup.
The Romanian national team is confidently leading in Group 2 of Division C of the 2024/25 Nations League. Mircea Lucescu’s team has 9 points after 3 matches. Romania will play its next match on October 15 away against Lithuania.
