The coach will begin his duties from the beginning of 2025
German specialist Thomas Tuchel officially signed a contract with Football Association of England.
It was reported that Tuchel would sign an 18-month deal. Anthony Berry will become his assistant, and the coaching staff will begin work on January 1, 2025.
During his career, Tuchel led Mainz, Borussia Dortmund (2017 German Cup), PSG (six trophies plus the 2020 Champions League final), Chelsea (winning the 2021 Champions League, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup) and Bayern. With the latter, Thomas won the Bundesliga in 2023, but the team regressed to third place with him last season.
Current Three Lions coach Lee Carsley, who leads the first team on an interim basis, has stated that he is not applying for a full-time position. He will continue to work with the team until the end of this year.
Let us remember that in mid-July Gareth Southgate resigned as head coach of the England national team. Gareth has led the team since 2016. Together with Southgate, the English team reached the European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024, but were defeated in both tournaments.
Let us remember that at the end of last season England were relegated to Division B of the Nations League. Here the Three Lions started with two victories, but were suddenly beaten by the Greeks (1:2) in the George Baldock Memorial match. Then Karsli’s team beat Finland away (3:1), but remained second – the Greeks are three points ahead and have an advantage in head-to-head matches.
In November, England will have 2024/25 Nations League matches against Greece (November 14) and Ireland (November 17). In March 2025, it will start in the qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup, the draw for which will take place later.
