Andres is a participant in five World Cups and the national team record holder for the number of matches played
Legendary midfielder Andres Guardado said goodbye to Mexico national team after a 19-year career with the national team.
On the night of October 16 (local time), the 38-year-old player took to the field for the 182nd time wearing an El Tri jersey – a national record. Andres scored 28 goals for the national team – according to this indicator, he is among the top 10 scorers in its entire history. Guardado is a participant in five world championships (2006 – 2022), winner of three CONCACAF Gold Cups.
Guardado ended his international career back in 2022, after the World Cup in Qatar, but only now played his farewell match for the national team.
In a friendly match against the USA, the veteran started and played a symbolic 18 minutes (18 is Andres’ favorite number, under which he constantly played both in the national team and in almost all clubs). Already without him, Javier Aguirre’s team scored twice and won a victory over their main rival (2:0).
During his career, Guardado played for Atlas, Deportivo (2007 – 2012), Valencia, Bayer, PSV. From 2017 until recently he was a Betis player. Since January he has been performing in his homeland, for Leon. In the current Apertura he played 8 matches and scored one assist.
