Inter forward became top scorer of Copa America 2024
Attack Argentina national team Lionel Messi believes that his compatriot Lautaro Martinez deserves to get Golden ball this year.
“He had an impressive year. Lautaro scored a goal in the 2024 Copa America final and became the tournament’s top scorer. He deserves the Ballon d’Or more than anyone else,” Messi said.
Martinez became the top scorer of the 2024 Copa America with five goals. Lautaro scored the only goal in the tournament final in overtime against Colombia (1:0). Together with Inter, the forward became the champion of Italy.
Messi scored a hat-trick and provided two assists in the next qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup against Bolivia (6:0). One of Lionel’s assists was to Martinez, who scored Albiceleste’s second goal of the game.
The Argentina national team confidently leads the South American qualification for the 2026 World Cup, gaining 22 points. The reigning world champions will next play Paraguay on November 15.
